On the second day of his visit to the Don Bend in Russia, Minister of Defence Dr. István Simicskó paid tribute at a WWII memorial and in the two Hungarian central military cemeteries.
Speaking at the NCO graduation ceremony in Szentendre on Saturday, Minister of Defence Dr. István Simicskó stated that the Hungarian Defence Forces are set on the path of development again, as the Zrínyi 2026 is the most comprehensive and extensive national defence and armed forces development program of the last 25 years.
The first word that comes to mind about what we’ve seen here is cooperation. We’ve seen a clear proof of it, and I’d like to congratulate each soldier who participated in the preparation and the demonstration because they practice their profession at a high level by high standards, Deputy Minister Tamás Vargha, Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence said at the Distinguished Visitors’ Day of Exercise Szentes Axe 2017 in Győr on Wednesday, 5 July.
On Sunday, 2 July in the evening hours, on behalf of the government of Hungary, Minister of Defence Dr. István Simicskó received Head of State of Egypt Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and the delegation headed by him at Liszt Ferenc International Airport, Budapest.
On Thursday, 29 June, Deputy Minister of Defence Tamás Vargha attended the meeting of NATO ministers of defence in Brussels.
Speaking at the annual conference of defence, military and air attachés, Minister of Defence Dr. István Simicskó announced that the developments occurring in all areas of the Hungarian Defence Forces will involve the continuing expansion of the military attaché network as well.
On Monday, 19 June, a discussion took place in Prague on the role of the Central European Defence Cooperation (CEDC) in managing mass illegal migration.
On Friday, 16 June in Hódmezővásárhely, Minister of Defence Dr. István Simicskó received his Austrian counterpart, Austrian Minister of Defence and Sports Hans Peter Doskozil.
“The decision to increase Hungary’s contribution to the fight against the Islamic State terrorist organisation is an important decision with regard to the security of both the Hungarian people and Europe”, the Ministry of Defence’s Parliamentary State Secretary said.
Payments have started from a HUF 2 billion grant scheme dedicated to the restoration of war graves and heroes’ memorial sites of Hungarian soldiers who lost their lives in the First World War.
