A new era is about to begin in relations between Hungary and Iran, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said in Tehran after he had talks with Eshaq Jahangiri, First Vice President of Iran, and ministers from the two countries signed several bilateral agreements – including an agreement on the avoidance of double taxation and the promotion of investment.
Following the extraordinary EU-Turkey summit of heads of government and state on Sunday in Brussels, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that the final document accepted on Sunday does not include provisions on the mandatory distribution of migrants among Member States.
In Brussels, before the extraordinary summit of the leaders of the European Union and Turkey convened for Sunday, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that Hungary is prepared to pay, but will not accept forced resettlement of migrants on its territory.
Speaking at an international NATO conference held in the Hungarian Parliament on Friday, 27 November, Minister of Defence Dr. István Simicskó said that “in the face of 21st century challenges, NATO has welded into an alliance not only of interests but also of values”.
The leaders of all parliamentary groups attending the meeting scheduled by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán for Saturday morning agreed that an agreement is needed in Brussels which bears in mind the earlier decisions of Parliament on the issue of immigration, as well as European and Hungarian interests.
Should the European Union adopt a decision against Hungary under Article 7 of the Treaty on European Union, that is, a decision on the suspension of Hungary’s voting rights, it could only be construed as Brussels’ revenge on account of Hungary’s successful immigration policy, Péter Szijjártó stated at his press conference held in Budapest on Friday.
On Thursday, Minister of Interior Sándor Pintér told the Hungarian news agency MTI that the Counter-terrorism Centre (TEK) did an outstanding job on Sunday when it prevented a potential deliberate or accidental explosion from happening in densely-populated areas of the capital. Mr. Pintér said that “My trust in Brigadier General and Head of the Counter-terrorism Centre János Hajdú and his colleagues is undiminished”.
On Thursday, some two billion dollars’ worth of contracts were concluded between Hungarian and Chinese company leaders in Beijing in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó.
The southern security border closure has proved that it works and fulfils its function, and if these security measures were also implemented in other EU Member States, such as Greece, there would be no incidents where migrants attempt to break through the border at the Greek-Macedonian border section, Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács spoke about this on the public service television news channel M1 on Friday morning.
The Hungarian Government takes the view that illegal migration and terrorism are inseparable, “they go hand in hand” and meanwhile the threat of terrorism is on the increase in Europe, the Minister heading the Prime Minister’s Office said at his press conference held in Budapest on Thursday.
