“A lot of debates are taking place these days, but there is a cause that provides a common ground, namely defence of the homeland”, Minister of Defence István Simicskó pointed out at the central ceremony of the Ministry of Defence held on the occasion of the Day of the Hungarian Defence Forces on Friday, 20 May.
György Bakondi, Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister, has told public television channel M1 that an intensive border protection system is in place along the Ukrainian-Hungarian border, but if illegal migrants also arrive there, further measures will be introduced to improve protection of that border.

Wages in real terms grew markedly in Q1 2016, by 7.4 percent year-on-year, according to the latest report of the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH). Thus, an upward wage growth trend has been in place for the 39th consecutive month in Hungary. In comparison to March 2015, the number of employees in the private sector – at enterprises with at least five employees – was up significantly, by 65 thousand, in the observed period. This has mainly been the result of growing labour demand, the reduction of taxes on labour, the Job Protection Action as well as to measures aimed at higher economic activity.
In an interview on Kossuth Rádió’s “180 Minutes”, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that both the Hungarians and the Poles deserve more respect from former and current leaders of the United States. He was responding to a recent accusation from former US President Bill Clinton, who said that Poland and Hungary “want Putin-like leadership”.
“It is primarily IT companies that are in favour of the proposed Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) agreement between the EU and the United States; environmental protection groups and human rights activists are against the treaty”, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Minister of State for Security Policy and International Cooperation István Mikola said at a press conference in Budapest on Thursday.

At the conference “Cars of the Future” at Budapest Technical University, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that since 2010 the Government has been working on turning Hungary into Central Europe’s automotive industry innovation centre. He said he would like to see Hungary showing the fastest rate of growth in research, development and innovation activities, as well as in the production of cars.
“At Thursday’s meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers in Brussels, Montenegro will be signing an agreement on joining the military organisation, which significantly contributes to the stability of the Western Balkan region”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said prior to the meeting.
