“Hungary is conforming to EU regulations on protecting the European Union’s external borders, the goal being to ensure that people can only enter Hungary, and accordingly the territory of the European Union, after being checked”, the Minister of Interior said on Thursday in Tompa.
The legal border closure which took effect on Tuesday is working well and without problems, the first experiences are positive, and migrants have disappeared from the Serbian side of the border, the Minister of State at the Ministry of Interior told the Hungarian news agency MTI.
The expansion of the transit zones at Röszke and Tompa has been completed under the supervision of experts from the prison service and with the involvement of prisoners. A total of 324 containers were deployed at the two sties. The containers have been fitted with public utilities, electricity and heating in accordance with regulations.
The Helsinki Committee is attacking the reinforced legal border barrier - during the course of its overzealous activities it is attacking non-existent container prisons using faulty legal reasoning.

The border protection agencies are fully prepared for the entry into force of the reinforced legal border closure on 28 March 2017, and the personal and material conditions necessary for its implementation are available.
The enlargement project which is ongoing also at present at the Vác Maximum Security Prison and Penitentiary Facility with the involvement of the inmates will provide prison accommodation for 120 prisoners.
We are making all the conditions available that are necessary for enabling members of the police and defence forces to protect the borders.
