Minister of Defence Dr. Tibor Benkő received Finland’s Ambassador to Budapest Markku Virri in his office on Monday, 15 July. Finland is taking over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from Romania from 1 July, and its priority tasks include issues relating to security and defence policy.
At a press conference held on 10 July in the capital, Deputy Minister Szilárd Németh, Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, described next year’s budget as a budget of Hungarian families and security.
“One hundred years after the end of the First World War, it is the duty of all of us to bow our heads before our heroes, to maintain their final resting places in a worthy state, and to commemorate them with respect and reverence”, the Ministry of Defence’s Parliamentary State Secretary Szilárd Németh said on Friday 28 June at the official inauguration of the refurbished military plot and memorials at the Holy Trinity Cemetery in Gyula.
The Western Balkans region continues to remain the main area of Hungary’s peacekeeping responsibilities, the Defence Minister said on Tuesday in Budapest.
Minister of Defence Tibor Benkó received his Czech counterpart with full military honours on Heroes’ Square in Budapest on Friday 21 June, following which the parties held a joint press conference at the Hotel Hadik after holding negotiations. Mr. Benkő stressed that cooperation between the Czech and Hungarian military is extremely good.
Defence Minister Tibor Benkő mainly spoke about the security situation and the development of the defence forces at the annual hearing held by Parliament’s National Security and Defence and Policing Committees on 18 June, Tuesday, in the capital.
“Countering the threats that appear in cyberspace requires up-to-date, high quality training. The Hungarian Defence Force’s Cyber Training Centre will provide this training to soldiers”, it was stated on 13 June in Szentendre at the official inauguration of the institution.
Deputy Defence Minister Szilárd Németh held a press conference on the Ministry of Defence’s and Hungarian Defence Force’s budget for 2020.
“The European Union can only be strong if it is made up of strong member states”, Minister of Defence Tibor Benkő said on 10 June at a meeting of Visegrád Group (V4) defence officials in Piešťany (Pöstyén), Slovakia.
Hungary’s Defence Minister Tibor Benkő continued his commemorative visit to Russia in Hungarian Central Military Cemeteries I and II in Boldyrevka and Rudkino. At the commemoration, the Minister drew attention to the importance of paying our respects to those who died as heroes in wars and fostering their memory.
