Bertalan Havasi, the Deputy State Secretary heading the Press Office of the Prime Minister, informed Hungarian news agency MTI that on Thursday afternoon Prime Minister Viktor Orbán paid his respects to the memory of former US President George HW Bush by making an entry in the book of condolence which has been opened at the US Embassy in Budapest.

The actions and decisions of my government leave no doubt as to the fact that the Hungarian Government feels responsible for its citizens of Jewish origin, and ensures their security. You and your organisation can count on this clear Hungarian government policy in the future as well”, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán wrote in a letter of reply to the President of the World Jewish Congress. A copy of the letter was provided by to Hungarian news agency MTI by the Prime Minister’s Press Chief, Bertalan Havasi.
In Zagreb on Monday, following a meeting with Prime Minister of Croatia Andrej Plenković during an official visit, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that “I know of no economic issue more valuable than the 800-year friendship between the Hungarians and the Croatians.”
