Statues of the 11th century scientist Avicenna and Hungarian physician Ignác Semmelweis were unveiled at a conference at the Tehran University of Medical Science on Tuesday, commemorating the 150th anniversary of the death of Semmelweis. At the conference Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that the two scientists are not only symbols of science, but also of friendly cooperation between Hungary and Iran.
Speaking in Tehran at the Hungarian-Iranian business forum on opportunities for economic cooperation between the two countries, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that Iran is about to undergo a phase of major economic development.
A new era is about to begin in relations between Hungary and Iran, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said in Tehran after he had talks with Eshaq Jahangiri, First Vice President of Iran, and ministers from the two countries signed several bilateral agreements – including an agreement on the avoidance of double taxation and the promotion of investment.
In Brussels, before the extraordinary summit of the leaders of the European Union and Turkey convened for Sunday, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that Hungary is prepared to pay, but will not accept forced resettlement of migrants on its territory.
The leaders of all parliamentary groups attending the meeting scheduled by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán for Saturday morning agreed that an agreement is needed in Brussels which bears in mind the earlier decisions of Parliament on the issue of immigration, as well as European and Hungarian interests.
In a speech on Thursday delivered before an audience mostly comprised of students at the Beijing International Studies University, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated that Hungarians are past masters of endurance and survival in Europe. The Prime Minister attended an unveiling ceremony for a plaque at the institution’s Hungarian Research Centre.
In an interview given to the Brussels news portal Politico, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated that while it is not accepted, the fact is that “all the terrorists are basically migrants […] The question is when they migrated to the European Union”.
At a bilateral meeting in Suzhou, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán expressed his gratitude to Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang for the excellent Chinese-Hungarian cooperation. The main topic of the discussion was the potential expansion of Hungarian agricultural products’ export to China.
In a speech at a summit between China and Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries held in the city of Suzhou, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated that Europe has been attacked, and is exposed to further threats. Security has now become the key priority in Europe, he said.
In Suzhou in China, the Prime Minister held bilateral talks with Prime Minister of Montenegro Milo Djukanovic and Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius. The discussions mainly focused on Montenegro’s NATO and EU membership, and the Hungarian-Lithuanian business forum planned for the beginning of next year, respectively.
