Prime Minister and Chairman of Fidesz Viktor Orbán received Chairman of Montenegro’s Socialist Democratic Party and the Balkan state’s former Prime Minister and President Milo Đukanović in the Parliament Building on Thursday, the Prime Minister’s Press Chief, Bertalan Havasi informed the kormany.hu government news portal.
At the meeting, which was also attended by Minister heading the Prime Minister’s Office Antal Rogán and Fidesz Parliamentary Group Leader Gergely Gulyás, the parties determined that Montenegro’s recently acquired NATO membership is also facilitating the country’s EU integration. Mr. Orbán assured his guest of Hungary’s continued full support with regard to this process. The Prime Minister pointed out that at several EU summits in Brussels he had already urged his colleagues to assure that the European Council develops a coordinated strategy for the integration of the Western Balkan states, because otherwise other global power factors could gain influence within the region.
It was also mentioned at the meeting that Hungary is the second largest investor in Montenegro from among the EU’s member states, and that both parties will continue to strive to develop economic relations in future.
