Bertalan Havasi, head of the Prime Minister's Press Office, has told the Hungarian press agency MTI that in Brussels on Wednesday Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and leaders of the European People's Party (EPP) held talks on preparations for next year’s European Parliament elections.
Following a two-hour discussion at the EPP’s headquarters in which Mr. Orbán and Hungarian MEP József Szájer met EPP leaders Joseph Daul and Manfred Weber, Mr. Havasi said that "Today's meeting was about preparations for next year’s European Parliament elections."
The head of the Prime Minister's Press Office continued: "The situation is difficult, as last year the European Union lost the United Kingdom, and Brussels has been unable to curb immigration. The European People's Party is in a sensitive position, as it is the leading force in the EU. Fidesz – and Viktor Orbán in person – stand ready to take part in the European People's Party’s election campaign, and to support the EPP’s current leadership."
