Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s press chief, has informed the Hungarian news agency MTI that in the Parliament Building on Wednesday morning Viktor Orbán – Prime Minister and President of Fidesz – and Zsolt Németh – head of the Foreign Affairs Cabinet of Fidesz – received Giorgia Meloni, President of the Italian political party Brothers of Italy (FdI).
At the meeting the participants agreed that migration is a major threat to the whole of Europe, and that uncontrolled immigration must therefore be stopped. Ms. Meloni said that the Visegrád Group (V4) occupies a special place in the election manifesto of her party, which has great interest in the V4 as a group of countries opposed to the EU’s expansionist bureaucracy and its stealthy efforts to appropriate powers from the nation states.
At the meeting it was stated that the true Europe must be protected, and every Member State and its culture and historical heritage must be accorded the respect it deserves. In order to achieve all this a change of political direction is also required in Italy, and those present agreed that now there is a good chance of this happening.
A parliamentary election will be held in Italy on Sunday. Silvio Berlusconi’s Forza Italia has entered into an election coalition with Matteo Salvini’s Lega Nord and Giorgia Meloni’s Brothers of Italy, which is also of the right. According to the latest polls, this centre-right alliance’s popularity currently stands at almost forty per cent.
