Prime Minister Viktor Orbán described Turkey as a key state in the fields of the management of the migration crisis and the protection of borders in the Carmelite Monastery where he received Mevlüt Cavusoglu, Turkey’s Foreign Minister on Friday.
At the meeting, the parties spoke about the development of Hungarian-Turkish relations in words of praise, highlighting that there is ongoing progress equally in the fields of politics, economic relations and culture.
Turkey is an important trade partner of Hungary, in 2018 bilateral trade increased by 5 per cent to USD 3.1 billion, but the parties agreed at the meeting that there are further as yet unexplored opportunities in economic cooperation. Therefore, they will intensify the efforts of the Hungarian-Turkish economic mixed committee and the strategic cooperation council.
Regarding cultural relations, in possession of its observer status obtained in the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States, Hungary seeks to further improve the relations it has established to date.
