Those who believe that the future of Hungary and Europe is important will have to go and vote on Sunday, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated in an interview published in the newspaper Magyar Nemzet and the provincial newspapers of the Mediaworks Group on Saturday. The Prime Minister said “Pro-immigration supporters will all be there, so we should be there, too”.
Mr Orbán highlighted that the Sunday vote will also be an opportunity to come to conclusions regarding the work completed by the government and the opposition.
The Sunday results could weaken or strengthen governments and heads of government in the European Council. Therefore, Hungary’s strength in the debate on the future of Europe will depend on how Hungarian electors will decide on Sunday, he said.
“The most important question of Europe’s future is the issue of immigration, meaning whether we will preserve the cultural identity of our continent, its civilisation that was built on Christian foundations,” the Prime Minister pointed out.
The weight of the Hungarian position on the issue of immigration will be determined by the Sunday results. Voters will be able to stop immigration if they send anti-immigration deputies to Brussels, Mr Orbán stated, observing that “it is not irrelevant in what kind of a Europe our children and grandchildren will grow up”.
The Prime Minister underlined that there is “a very powerful aspiration” to transform the whole of Europe.
This is “a continuous threat to us”. In Europe there are politicians, parties, governments, business interest groups, intelligentsia networks and intellectual centres which take the view that Europe should leave behind Christian culture and the national era of history, and should create a United States of Europe, an empire with a mixed population in which neither identity based on Christianity, nor affiliation with a nation will mean anything because those will become absorbed and will disappear, the Prime Minister said.
These aspirations have representatives in Hungary as well, Mr Orbán said, adding that they are the ones who, based on the Brussels model, do not want to stop immigration, but seek to organise it instead.
The European Left wants a Europe with a mixed population because, in actual fact, it seeks to eliminate nations, despite the fact that Europe derives its strength from successful nation states, said the Prime Minister who is convinced that in the decade ahead of us it will not be possible to pursue a line of politics in Hungary in which we do not regard migration as the most important question.
The Prime Minister observed that “if in the past few years there had been a left-wing government in Hungary, our cities would look like some German or French cities because there would be hundreds of thousands of migrants from Africa or the Middle East in our country”.
He also pointed out that each and every time left-wing parties voted together with the pro-immigration forces in Europe.
From among the candidates of Hungarian parties, the Hungarian people can only rely on Fidesz’s politicians, he stated.
Regardless of what they happen to say at any given time, the whole of the Hungarian opposition joined ranks behind the banners of pro-immigration forces. They represent not the Hungarian people, but Brussels, Mr Orbán said, highlighting that shelves in Brussels are full of plans seeking to accelerate migration.
Migrant bank cards, migrant visas, sponsoring Soros’s pro-immigration organisations with billions of euros, the Prime Minister listed, adding that these must be stopped, the money should be used for the protection of the borders, and for supporting families.
Mr Orbán further pointed out that Fidesz will stay within the People’s Party if that is in Hungary’s best interest; that depends on which way the People’s Party will move.
He said the issue of immigration had cut the EPP into two. In this situation, in Mr Orbán’s view, the role of prime ministers will increase compared with parties, and the most marked manifestation of this process is the strengthening of the Visegrád Four, within the framework of which four prime ministers cooperate who are members of four different party families.
Regarding the Hungarian opposition, he said his government had been elected three times in a row, and “this evidently causes frustration in those who are serially defeated”. At the same time, he highlighted that it is not him, but the Hungarian people who stop the opposition from winning.
Opposition politicians and the intellectual workshops behind them should finally understand that the fact that Hungary has had a very stable government resting on national and Christian foundations for nine years is not “some sort of an accident”; it is the country’s cultural identity. “These are the foundations, this is the Hungarian world whose goals, desires and aspirations the government which I lead today expresses,” the Prime Minister said.
This does not depend on the person of the leader, but on what he or she stands for: “Elevating patriotism, respect for Christian European culture, supporting families, protecting jobs, the aspiration to reach full employment, increasing the minimum wage and security to chief criteria. These are all in harmony with the values of the Hungarian people”, Mr Orbán said.
The things that the opposition is forcing – a United States of Europe, immigration, gender issues, that traditional relations between man and woman should change, that family is a readily changeable form of living together, that the nation is nothing more than a cultural mistake, that immigration is beautiful and positive – are all ideas which are alien to the mentality of the vast majority of Hungarian society, the Prime Minister highlighted.
“The future of Hungary and Europe depends on whether we will be able to preserve our identity and culture that rest on the foundations of Christian values,” he said, stressing that on Sunday the future of Europe will be at stake.
He pointed out that he had compiled a seven-point programme for stopping immigration; he asks for the Hungarian people’s support with this. “In Brussels it will be opposed by many, so I ask for the Hungarian people’s robust support because I will only be able to represent this in Brussels with their help,” Mr Orbán said in conclusion.
