During an interview on M1 Hungarian television’s current affairs programme on Tuesday, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that “There is no indication that the explosion on Teréz Boulevard [in central Budapest] on Saturday evening is in any way linked to the migration crisis”.

“Although perhaps the possibility cannot be ruled out, there is currently nothing to indicate this, which after all is reassuring”, the Prime Minister said.

“Whatever the motive, we are certainly talking about a heinous act”, he added. “It would seem that it was the police who were the target of the attack”, Mr. Orbán said.

The Prime Minister also said that he had ordered Minister of Interior Sándor Pintér to “hunt down” the perpetrator by any means necessary and extract from him what he did and why he did it.
