In his letter of congratulation to Viktor Orbán, President of the Italian Forza Italia (FI) party Silvio Berlusconi also wrote about Hungary’s leading role, friendly Hungarian-Italian relations and the reinforcing effect that Fidesz’s recent election victory is having on the European People’s Party, the Prime Minister’s Press Chief, Bertalan Havasi informed Hungarian news agency MTI on Tuesday.
“I would like to congratulate you on your extraordinary election result, which proves the huge consensus surrounding your person and your party in Hungary. It is a well-deserved victory not just in light of the economic results you have achieved, but also from the perspective of your beautiful country’s national prestige”, the party leader wrote. According to Mr. Berlusconi, the reinforcement of the person of Viktor Orbán and the re-election of Fidesz is not only good news in view of their personal friendship, but also because “this is also a victory for the European People’s Party, for which there was a great need”.
“I am positive that under your guidance Hungary will continue to occupy the leading role in Europe that it deserves in view of its illustrious history, its diverse and sophisticated culture, and its ‘dramatically suffered involvement’ in the fight for freedom against Nazism and later against communism”, the FI President continued.
“I am also sure that the friendly relations between our countries will continue to improve and expand. For my part and that of Forza Italia, as always, we will continue to have a strong commitment in this respect”, he added.
“I very much hope that the opportunity will soon arise to meet in Rome, Brussels of Budapest, so that we can celebrate your great victory together. Once again: Hurrah, hurrah, hurrah!”, Silvio Berlusconi wrote in closing in his letter to Viktor Orbán.
