Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam will pay a visit to Hungary on 8 September at the invitation of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Bertalan Havasi, the Deputy State Secretary heading the Press Office of the Prime Minister announced.

He highlighted that Mr Orbán paid an official visit to Vietnam a year ago, in September last year.

At the time, the Prime Minister said at his press conference held in Hanoi after his talks that the Hungarian government would like to build a special relationship between Hungary and Vietnam. He said Hungary chose Vietnam as its strategic partner in the region because there has been good diplomatic cooperation between the two countries for a long time, and additionally because there are some three thousand Vietnamese citizens who obtained their qualifications in Hungary, and a Vietnamese community of several thousand – comprised of well-respected and diligent families – lives in Hungary.

During his official visit last year Mr Orbán also stressed that, according to strategic analysts, in the next thirty years Vietnam will be one of the world’s most rapidly developing countries.
