PM Viktor Orbán received the leaders of those 67 local governments that were affected by the Buda-Cash scandal. A decision has been made on the government providing financially endangered local governments an extraordinary support of approximately HUF 245 million – Bertalan Havasi announced.
He said that having reviewed the situation, the parties concerned were in agreement that – together with irresponsible foreign exchange borrowing – the Buda-Cash scandal causing a damage of about HUF 100 billion to the Hungarian citizens is the greatest institutionalised financial abuse of the 21st century in Hungary.
The government is interested in a full disclosure, as everyone needs to receive a clear answer to the question as to where the money has gone – Mr Havasi said, adding that in the view of the government consultations with the Bank Association and the Hungarian National Bank are necessary in order to clarify what steps are needed to improve financial surveillance.
