In the Carmelite Monastery in Budapest Prime Minister Viktor Orbán received politicians of the Conservative People’s Party of Estonia (EKRE), Member of Parliament Jaak Madison, President of the Estonian-Hungarian Friendship Group, and Siim Pohlak who is expected to take over leadership of the friendship group as Mr Madison will continue work as Member of the European Parliament, Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s press chief informed the Hungarian news agency MTI on Friday afternoon.
The conservative, anti-immigration party gained in strength considerably in the Estonian parliamentary election held in March, and became a member of the new government coalition.
At the Friday meeting, the parties established that both in Europe and world-wide electors are assigning an ever-increasing political role to parties which take the view that protecting national and Christian values is important, as is the need to ward off the threats of migration. During debates regarding the renewal of the EU – with a view to the representation of traditional European values – Fidesz and the Conservative People’s Party of Estonia as well as the Hungarian and Estonian governments will intensify their cooperation, the parties confirmed at the meeting.
EKRE stood up for Hungary on a number of occasions when liberal, pro-immigration forces launched political attacks against the country, Mr Havasi pointed out, adding that after the adoption of the Sargentini Report, party president Mart Helme sent a letter of support to Mr Orbán.
