Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has arrived in Hungary for an official visit. He had talks with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on Thursday afternoon in the Carmelite Monastery, in Budapest, Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s press chief informed the Hungarian news agency MTI.
At the meeting, the parties confirmed that there is agreement between Cambodia and Hungary on a number of issues, and there are further opportunities in bilateral cooperation, primarily in the fields of the economy, developments and education. A Cambodian-Hungarian economic mixed committee could soon begin work, they agreed.
Mr Orbán stressed that Hungary supports the tightening of trade relations between the European Union and Cambodia; in his view, this issue should be treated separately from other political issues.
At the meeting, the parties also agreed that it would be useful to explore the possibility for the two countries to reopen their embassies in one another’s capitals.
At the end of the talks, Hun Sen invited his Hungarian counterpart for an official visit to Cambodia, the press chief said.
