On Thursday, prior to an informal meeting of EU leaders in Bratislava, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán held talks with President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz, in which he asked Mr. Schulz to show respect to the Hungarian people.
Upon his arrival in Bratislava the Prime Minister told journalists that he had asked the EP President not to employ further legislative tricks in the future which circumvent the sovereign decisions and will of nation states. As an example of this practice he cited the issue of migrant quotas, on which heads of state and government had decided to adopt voluntary quotas; this was then changed to mandatory quotas through the European Parliament colluding with the European Commission.
“I asked him not to do that anymore, because nation states cannot accept it”, Mr. Orbán said.
