In Bratislava on Friday Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said, in relation to a decision by Standard and Poor’s, that “The hard work that the people of Hungary have performed in recent years is behind this upgrading of Hungary’s credit rating, and so it is primarily they who deserve recognition”.

In reply to a question at the informal press conference held following the EU summit, the Prime Minister said: “We took the news of the downgrade with a ‘stiff upper lip’ because we believed that our policies for reviving the economy would be effective, and there would also be upgrades in future”

Mr. Orbán said that “This has now happened, and the people of Hungary have worked extremely hard to make it clear to the outside world that Hungary is a good investment destination”.
