Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s press chief, has informed kormany.hu that, two days before the extraordinary EU summit being held in Rome, Prime Minister and President of Fidesz Viktor Orbán met Pier Ferdinando Casini, Honorary President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and Chairman of the Italian Senate’s Foreign Policy Commission. The meeting was to discuss the future of the European Union and the most important challenges the continent is facing.
In the meeting, held in the Fidesz headquarters in Budapest, the parties established that the European Union must implement significant changes in a number of areas, and Europe must renew itself. The press chief said that in their view one of the most important challenges is management of the migration crisis, and in this respect Hungary and Italy face similar problems. Mr Orbán repeatedly pointed out that the crisis simply cannot be solved without protecting the external borders, and Hungary is at the forefront of this effort in Europe.
