Immigration and border protection were the main topics of the meeting of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott.

According to the information of Bertalan Havasi, the Deputy State Secretary heading the Press Office of the Prime Minister, the Australian politician who was his country’s prime minister between 2013 and 2015 came to Hungary to attend the 3rd Budapest Demographic Summit.

At his meeting with the Hungarian Prime Minister, which was also attended by Balázs Orbán, Parliamentary State Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office, the parties agreed that every state has the right to decide whom to let into its territory and under what conditions.

While there are differences between Australia and Hungary – as the former was compelled to defend its territory by sea and the latter by land – both successful governments were driven by the same goal, namely the protection of their citizens and their culture, the parties underlined.

Europe must follow the Australian and Hungarian practices in border protection if it wishes to protect its citizens, Mr Orbán and Mr Abbott pointed out.
