The Office of the State Secretary for National Policy at the Prime Minister’s Office supports the march organised by the Szekler National Council on the occasion of the Szekler Freedom Day which seeks to draw attention to the importance of the autonomy of Szeklerland.
The Government of Hungary firmly believes that the Szeklers, too, are entitled to the various forms of autonomy which other European minorities enjoy, and they are likewise due to all Hungarian communities beyond the borders. The Office of the State Secretary for National Policy supports the Szekler community’s aspirations to freely use their own mother tongue and symbols, and condemns in the most categorical terms the actions taken by the Romanian authorities against the municipal leaders and mayors of Szeklerland.
It is important on the anniversary of the execution of the Szekler martyrs on 10 March 1854 in Marosvásárhely that people in the largest possible numbers pay tribute to this sad incident, and join the Szekler Freedom Day event.
