György Bakondi, Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister, has told public television station M1 that there is now complete calm on Hungary’s borders with Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia. He also noted, however, that the Government of Hungary will continue to monitor events on the other side of the borders. He added that a multilateral meeting of chiefs of police will be held in Vienna next week, where police measures needed to secure the borders will be discussed.
President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker has convened an extraordinary Leader’s Meeting of the countries concerned by the migration flows along the Western Balkan route for Sunday. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán was also invited, whose attendance has been confirmed by his Press Chief Bertalan Havasi.

Hungary supports the acceleration of Turkey’s EU accession talks and Turkish visa liberalisation as cooperation with Ankara is key to the management of the refugee crisis afflicting Europe, Péter Szijjártó told the Hungarian News Agency MTI on Tuesday by telephone.

On Wednesday Prime Minister Viktor Orbán will travel to Madrid to attend the congress of the European People’s Party.
“Hungary is fully open to maintaining pragmatic, normal cooperation with Romania, and although there are still many unsolved issues in relations between the two countries, the positive signs are clearly visible”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó told Hungarian news agency MTI by telephone on Tuesday.
