In an interview with public television channel M1 on Thursday, Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister György Bakondi said that terrorists sent to a number of countries – including European countries – are ready to commit acts of terrorism.

Mr. Bakondi said that without having detailed information on various incidents, it cannot be determined which actions are aimed at testing or misinforming security services, which are aimed at wearing down police forces and secret services, and which are aimed at testing their mobilisation capacities – as in the Cologne incidents on New Year’s Eve.

He explained that the terrorist organisation Islamic State is a threat to the world, including the United States, and – based on recent events in Istanbul – Islamic countries also; they have committed attacks in a number of European countries, too – from knife attacks to the atrocities in Paris.

Mr. Bakondi also talked about the proposed amendment to the Fundamental Law of Hungary proposed by Minister of Defence István Simicskó and discussed by the parliamentary groups this week. The amendment would introduce a new qualified period for the threat of terrorism. The aim of this would be to allow the Government – in cooperation with Parliament and the President – to introduce rapid measures in order to protect Hungarian citizens in extraordinary circumstances, the Chief Security Advisor explained.
