In response to a government proposal, on Tuesday Parliament repealed legislation on Sunday as a day of rest. The Cabinet has said that it recommended this course of action because over the past year the issue has proved to be divisive. In spite of the results achieved, the Government has failed to convince the public of the legislation’s benefits.

Members of Parliament approved the proposal submitted by Antal Rogán, Head of the Cabinet of the Prime Minister and Mihály Varga, Minister for National Economy, by 163 votes to 2, with 11 abstentions. Thus the legislation on Sunday as a day of rest will be repealed after being in force for just over one year.
