The European Commission’s package of proposals which was disclosed to the public yesterday would infringe Hungary’s sovereignty as it would delegate the distribution of migrants to EU competence.

János Lázár pointed out at the 45th Governmentinfo press conference: in the light of the Commission’s plan, the referendum on the mandatory settlement quotas will be a decisive vote as it will have a major impact on our nation’s sovereignty.

The Minister heading the Prime Minister’s Office added that the decision to be adopted may fundamentally determine the future of the Hungarian people, and therefore described it as the most important issue since the change of regime.

Mr Lázár made clear that the Government’s position remains unchanged: the Hungarian people must decide with whom they wish to live together in their country.
