Should the European Commission’s quota proposal be implemented, it would jeopardise Europe’s future and internal security, the Chief Advisor of the Prime Minister for Internal Security said on the Friday evening programme of the public service current affairs television channel M1.
György Bakondi takes the view that the introduction of the new asylum system contemplated by the EU and the application of the mandatory, statutory quotas are contrary to the interests of both Europe and Hungary. According to the details of the concept revealed to date, the EU would operate an immigration office with its headquarters seated in Brussels, and this office would decide as to who may enter the territory of the EU as asylum-seekers and which Member State they would then be transferred to, the Chief Advisor pointed out.
In his view, maintaining the integrity of the Schengen Area and preserving its economic, social and political advantages are common European interests. On this issue the Hungarian Government agrees with the leaders of the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and a number of other countries as well, Mr Bakondi said.
Our international activity in the next few weeks will be aimed at finding allies and convincing as many Member States as possible of the fact that the proposal cannot be introduced in its present form, the Chief Advisor for Internal Security said.
