Police apprehended twenty-three Afghani citizens in Budapest on Saturday night; the foreigners were attempting to travel to Western Europe illegally.
According to a statement published on the Budapest Police Headquarters website, police officers stopped a van in the capital’s 11th District; in addition to the driver, 22 other Afghan citizens were also found in the back of the vehicle. An identity check revealed that none of the people on board had any of the documents required to legally enter or reside in the European Union. The passengers told police they wanted to get to Western Europe.
The migrants were remanded in custody at the district police station pending criminal procedures, the statement reads.
