On Saturday, Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister György Bakondi told public television channel M1 that “there is nothing to indicate that the number of illegal migrants will decrease this year, and in fact they could arrive in Europe in even greater numbers in the spring”.
According to Mr. Bakondi, it is worrying that in addition to the permanent nature of migration pressure, some in the European Union have also proposed the idea of bringing asylum seekers to Europe directly from Turkey or Syria.
“The Government of Hungary does not support either version; it is our firm belief that we must protect the European Union’s external borders and that the external controls that are required to guarantee security must be performed there”, he stressed.
“We must do everything possible to enable migrants to return home and to resolve the situation in their countries of origin”, he added.
