The Prime Minister’s chief advisor for internal security believes that, due to the closure of the green border, migrants may also attempt to enter the territory of Hungary on trains.
György Bakondi said this on the public service television news channel M1 on Saturday in response to the news that as part of the railway identity check campaign conducted by the National Police Headquarters between Thursday morning and Friday morning, more than eight thousand persons were requested to verify their identities, and charges were pressed against 18 people due to illegal migration.
According to the chief advisor, while illegal migrants did not typically enter the country by rail earlier and instead chose „to walk in” on the tracks, due to the closure of the green border, they are seeking ways in which they may enter the territory of the country without controls. He said: they will also conduct regular checks together with the police forces of the neighbouring countries, and will apprehend those attempting to enter on trains as well.
Mr Bakondi further told the news channel that the Government instated a state of migration crisis on Wednesday for a period of six months which can be extended if necessary.
