György Bakondi, Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister told Hungarian television channel M1 that statistics of the first few months of the year show that on average, an asylum seeker spends 30-34 days in Hungarian reception centres: this is how long it takes to make a decision in their cases.

As for what happened in the Kiskunhalas closed reception centre, Mr. Bakondi said that Hungarian and EU laws apply to everyone, therefore it is not possible for these people to be transferred to another camp or to have the procedure of their cases accelerated.

He pointed out that “there is a legal procedure, they are in that camp legally” adding that the authorities may order asylum detention for three days, following which it is only the court that may extend this period for a maximum of six months.

On Thursday, Hungarian television channel M1 reported that migrants were protesting in groups in Kiskunhalas again; there is an increased presence of police forces at the Bács-Kiskun County reception centre. It was recalled that this has been the third day in a row that some kind of atrocity occurred in the Kiskunhalas camp. On Tuesday, an Afghani migrant bit a piece from the ear of fellow migrant. On Wednesday, the Bács-Kiskun County Police Department announced on the portal police.hu that out of five hundred refugee detainees, some three hundred expressed their demands by complaining about “closed conditions and slow processing of their cases”.
