The Hungarian Government is requesting information from the US regarding the warning of the CIA as part of which Budapest was mentioned as a venue of possible terrorist attacks, the Chief Advisor of the Prime Minister for Internal Security said on Monday afternoon.

György Bakondi responded to the fact that, according to news reports published in the Polish daily Rzeczpospolita, in its warning sent to the Polish internal security service, the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) mentioned Warsaw, Berlin and Budapest as venues of possible terrorist attacks. In its Monday issue the daily confirmed unofficial press intelligence to the effect that the CIA warned the Polish internal security agency (ABW) in mid-March: there is a threat of „parallel attacks to be conducted in Berlin, Budapest and Warsaw, inter alia, at organised mass events”.

The Chief Advisor of the Prime Minister for Internal Security said: the Hungarian Government has been informed of the threat from Polish press reports. He highlighted: all information concerning threats is taken seriously, and they never believe that no further terrorist attacks can occur.

Mr Bakondi pointed out: they are doing everything they can to protect the public. In answer to the question of whether they will raise the level of preparedness on account of the threat of terrorist attacks, he said: this is the same situation as when the terrorist organisation calling itself the Islamic State identified Hungary as a potential target, in addition to Portugal, on its website. He highlighted at the same time: they are taking every threat seriously, and are seeking further information in this specific case.

The Chief Advisor added: based on the currently available information, there is no reason yet for raising the level of preparedness. The alert level will continue to remain 3, a medium level of preparedness, and there is a national state of crisis in force in connection with mass migration.
