Minister of Justice László Trócsányi attended the ceremonious swearing in of Hungary’s new judge of the European Court of Human Rights, Péter Paczolay, in Strasbourg.
“During the course of the National Consultation people have until 20 May to reinforce the standpoint that the Government has developed on illegal immigration”, Parliamentary State Secretary Pál Völner from the Ministry of Justice said at a press conference.
Those non-governmental organisations criticise the new legislation which do not see the country’s best interests as the primary consideration, the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Justice told Hungarian news agency MTI.
„We are to face fierce debates” at EU level, but we must be able to win them in order to protect Hungary’s sovereignty, the Justice Minister stressed at a migration forum held in Budapest on Tuesday.

According to Minister of State Pál Völner form the Ministry of Justice, the European Convention human Rights needs reforming, but no drastic steps need to be taken because Hungary and several other member states have issues with the decision of the Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. Speaking to reporters on 28 March in Budapest, Mr. Völner stressed: We have the right to protect our borders and screen organisations that are involved in the “migrant business”.
The European Union (EU) is growing through crises. The six-decade history of the EU demonstrates, however, that we have always managed to overcome difficulties, the Justice Minister stated in Szeged on Thursday.
“Hungary is complying fully with its international obligations”, the Minister of Justice said in Röszke on Friday.
“The majority of comments at Monday’s hearing of the European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) were critical of the measures Hungary has introduced, but the Government’s migration policy is nevertheless slowly being adopted and applied throughout Europe”, Minister of Justice László Trócsányi said following the meeting, one of the topics of which was the state of the rule of law in Hungary.
