The Hungarian Government is committed to increasing assistance to crime victims, Minister of Justice László Trócsányi told a press conference on Tuesday.

Speaking on the sidelines of a conference in the subject in Szeged, the minister noted that legislation passed in the past 25 years focused primarily on protecting the perpetrator.

He called for new directions in lawmaking, saying that ‘the vulnerable, the victims also need our attention’.

János Kothencz, candidate of the ruling parties for mayor of Szeged in the upcoming municipal elections, pointed to the individual responsibility of residents, and called for efforts to fight people’s indifference to crime, insisting that it will only increase the negative impact of criminal activities.
