The Hungarian Government stands aghast at the baseless accusations of the report published by Human Rights Watch on 18 February 2015. Hungary has always been ready for rational dialogue with any international partner but definitely rejects all verdicts based on statements without reason.
“The inviolable and inalienable fundamental rights of man shall be respected. It shall be the primary obligation of the State to protect these rights” the Fundamental Law of Hungary states. In order to fulfil this commitment, the Hungarian Government is open to dialogue, as it has always been. The opinion expressed by Human Rights Watch wishes to reopen questions that are already closed. It is contradiction in terms to urge mechanism of the rule of law in cases settled according to the requirements of the rule of law and it has no use for the European idea either.
The ignoble accusation with an intention of discrediting by any self-respecting human rights organization evokes revulsion and only radical ideas and organisations benefit from it.
If someone is truly distressed about the situation of human rights, their focus should be on areas where these rights are in real danger. Hungary expresses its serious concerns about the situation of Christians in the Middle East and considers the determinate action of civil society organisations in favour of those persecuted essential.
