On 12 December 2018, the National Assembly adopted the Act on Public Administration Courts and the Act on the Coming into Force of the Act on Public Administration Courts and Certain Transitional Regulations, which include the organisational, administrative and legal status regulations that are vital to the creation of an independent public administration court organisation. The latter piece of legislation set the date for the coming into force of the Act on Public Administration Courts as 1 January 2020.

In the interests of assuring that the continued progress of the procedure for establishing an independent public administration court system does not hinder the satisfactory resolution of disputes concerning the unfounded criticism of the state of the rule of law in Hungary, the Government has submitted a bill to the National Assembly on the postponement of the coming into force of the Act on Public Administration Courts.

Work on developing the public administration court system will continue once these disputes are resolved.
