“Hungarians still have to fight for their freedom, for solidarity and for security today. Today, the message of 15 March is still that the Hungarians want to decide on their own future, about everything that determines the fate of their children and grandchildren”, Deputy Interior Minister and Parliamentary State Secretary Károly Kontrát said in his speech at the Ministry of Interior’s commemoration to mark our national holiday.
“The Youths of March recognised that without independence and freedom Hungary has no future, and they also had the courage to fight for it. They knew that the security of the individual and the freedom of the nation are inseparable”, Mr. Kontrát said.
In his speech, the Deputy Interior Minister highlighted: “Security is the most important community value today. It is a treasure for which we must not only fight, but which we must also be capable of preserving, because it is fragile. Today, standing up for our security and for our nation requires consistent, hard and unified effort”.
We must not allow others to decide in our place about the country’s future, because what the Hungarian nation wants is just as clear today as it was in 1848, he emphasised. “Today, Hungary is a proud and strong European country. We must preserve our homeland the way we want it, and on our national holiday we must remember our heroes and their courageous stand, which will be an example to us for all eternity”, he added.
