On Thursday, Minister of Interior Sándor Pintér told the Hungarian news agency MTI that the Counter-terrorism Centre (TEK) did an outstanding job on Sunday when it prevented a potential deliberate or accidental explosion from happening in densely-populated areas of the capital. Mr. Pintér said that “My trust in Brigadier General and Head of the Counter-terrorism Centre János Hajdú and his colleagues is undiminished”.
Through a press release on Tuesday, TEK informed MTI that during its weekend counter-terrorism operations it had arrested a group in possession of machine guns and explosives. The police launched an investigation against four suspects for illegal possession of explosive devices, and firearms offences.
The four people who were arrested have been released. According to the court, the suspects have no links to terrorist organisations.
