It is only possible to exit poverty through work and education, and accordingly since it was formed the Government has introduced several measures aimed at creating a work-based economy, the Ministry of Human Capacities’ Parliamentary State Secretary Bence Rétvári told kormany.hu on the occasion of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.

The Government would like to provide everyone with the opportunity to escape poverty through returning to the world of work. During the past four years, unemployment in Hungary has decreased and the number of people in employment is now permanently above four million.

Children from disadvantaged families now have regular meals thanks to the programme introduced to help the most underprivileged, progressively compulsory kindergarten attendance from 2015 and the public catering programme. The family support system provides assistance to families with small children and pensioners are on average retaining an extra months’ pension thanks to the reduction in public utility prices, in addition to which the real value of pensions has also increased.
