Candidate for the post of Minister of Human Capacities Miklós Kásler highlighted achieving a turnaround in the current demographic trend, building the workfare society, reinforcing national identity and the physical, social and spiritual security of upcoming generations as important plans to be realised during his hearing before Parliament’s Public Welfare Committee on Monday.
Among the priority goals, he mentioned supporting families and providing incentives for people to have children, as well as the provision of differentiated benefits for childrearing.
He said it was important for work not to impede people’s plans to have children, and in his opinion several useful government measures have been introduced in the interests of achieving this.
On the subject of healthcare, Mr. Kásler said public health must be treated as a priority goal, requiring the determination of a precise structure, goal, tasks and responsibility, adding that he also regards the reinforcement of national institutions as being of fundamental importance.
According to the ministerial candidate, the system of basic services needs rethinking and extreme reinforcement, including the reorganisation of emergency and ambulance services. He also highlighted the fact that all of the required conditions have been met to allow a countrywide screening programme for bowel cancer, which could be launched “within a few weeks or one or two months”.
With relation to social child protection and the disabled, he said the most important task is to provide decent living conditions, addition to which assistance must also be provided to assure the long-term care of the elderly.
As he explained, the principle of work instead of benefits has come to the fore, inclusion has become sustainable, people are making a loving from their own work and the workfare family has been created.
The Committee supported the appointment of Mr. Kásler as Minister of Human Capacities by nine government party votes in favour and six opposition votes against, with no abstentions.
