The Night of Museums on the weekend featured 432 museums throughout Hungary and final visitor numbers are not yet available but they are expected to be record high, the Minister of State for Culture Péter Hoppál stated on Monday.

The event was held in Budapest for the 12th time and around Hungary for the 10th time, he added. Most museums, cultural institutes, thermal baths, zoos, wildlife parks and botanical gardens were open from the late afternoon until around 1am on June 21.

A total of 308 venues from outside Budapest and 124 from Budapest joined the scheme this year, around a third up from last year, Mr Hoppál pointed out, while more than 4,000 events were offered as part of the Night of Museums scheme on June 21.

Most museums, cultural institutes, thermal baths, zoos, wildlife parks and botanical gardens were open from the late afternoon until around 1am on June 21. Last year the programme attracted 356,000 people.
