Hungary has finished preparations for the winter care of homeless people in record time and will have an additional 1,500 shelter places available, Minister of State for Social Affairs and Inclusion Károly Czibere said at a Budapest press conference on Thursday.
According to the Minister of State, this is the first time when all decisions have been made by mid-September and over the next two weeks organizations helping the homeless will receive the money in order to ensure that nobody’s life will be in danger during the winter.
He said the government has published calls for applications worth HUF 372 million (EUR 1.2 million) for the crisis period whereas a total of HUF 9.2 billion (EUR 29.5 million) state support is earmarked for the homeless.
