Students have one more week to apply for Klebelsberg scholarships, Minister of Human Capacities Zoltán Balog said at a press conference on Monday, at which he also went on to announce that the scholarship programme has a budget of 343 million forints (EUR 1.12 million). Those who won the scholarship last year will receive 245 million forints from this budget, while a further 100 million is available for new applicants.
The Minister added that the number of applications was not limited and that the scholarship is also available to Hungarians living abroad. Last year the scholarship proved a success with over 500 applicants, he noted. The Klebelsberg scholarship is available to students who undertake to teach in the public education system upon graduation for at least as long as the duration of their scholarship. The amount available is 25,000, 50,000 or 75,000 forints per student per month, depending on the level of demand for the student’s chosen studies.
Minister of State for Public Education Judit Czunyiné Bertalan said that the programme is primarily an incentive for students to enrol into courses for teaching degrees that are in high demand, making future staff planning in public education more predictable. Teachers of natural sciences are in particular demand, she added.
