Minister of State for Social Affairs and Inclusion Károly Czibere handed over the keys to the 1.000th state-subsidized Suzuki car to a disabled person on Wednesday in Budafok, Budapest’s 22nd district.

The Ministry of Human Capacities launched the subsidy programme as an initiative to help the mobility of those with disabilities, due to which, in the past three years disabled people have managed to buy 1,800 new and used vehicles.

The 1.000th Suzuki’s recipient is Géza Varga, a pensioner confined to a wheelchair, whose day-by-day mobility will thus be greatly enhanced. The minister of State said that the ministry is committed to improving disabled person’s access to various services and these include transport services. He said further initiatives are being developed in close cooperation with those in need, promoting both inclusion and greater social acceptance.

Within the car subsidy programme, the visually impaired and those with hearing impairment and people with mental disabilities can apply for state subsidy for the purchase of a car until 30 September. The current programme has a budget of HUF 2.7 billion (EUR 8.65 million).
