By signing the new Ukrainian Education Act, Ukraine is stripping rights away, violating a number of international treaties, including the assurance of learning and teaching in the mother tongue on all levels on education, which the country has undertaken on its path towards the community of European nations. The leadership of Ukraine does not lead the country towards Europe but a dead end.
Hungary regards it as its constitutional duty to speak for national minorities including Hungarians on every relevant international forum. Therefore, the Minister of Human Capacities urges Ukraine’s Minister of Education to start negotiations – which had not taken place prior to the adoption of the law - with representatives of the Transcarpathian Hungarian communities, who had been left out of the legislative process.
The Government of Hungary is still prepared to hold talks with Ukraine in the interests of a fair minority education.
