The foundation stone of the new hospital was officially laid in Can Tho, the capital city of the Mekong Delta region, on 11 October 2017 in the presence of Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, Deputy Health Minister Nguyen Viet Tien and the city’s elders. The construction of the new hospital has been made possible thanks to a tied aid loan provided by Hungary, and will provide healthcare services to millions of people living in the region.

Hungary was represented at the event by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Deputy State Secretary Szilveszter Bús, who in his speech stressed that the constructing of the new hospital in Can Tho and further joint projects will serve to reinforce cooperation between Hungary and Vietnam and contribute to the dynamic expansion of economic relations between the two countries.

The priority goal of the Hungarian tied aid loan programmes being realised in Vietnam is to support the market presence of Hungarian enterprises in accordance with national economy interests.

The Deputy State Secretary pointed out that Vietnam is one of the most dynamically developing economies in the world today, with which it is in Hungary’s interests to develop mutually beneficial cooperation. During Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s visit to Hanoi in late September the leaders of the two countries agreed to develop a strategic relationships that looks to the future, within the framework of which we will be deepening bilateral economic relations. The Can Tho project will provide one of the important imprints of this aspiration to reinforce Hungary’s position in South Vietnam.
