“We are supporting former Kenyan Foreign Minister Amina Mohamed and former British Secretary of State for International Trade Liam Fox for the post of Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO)”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó announced on his social media page on Sunday.
“The WTO will soon be electing a new Director-General; there are another five people in competition to head the institution, which is determinative with relation to constructing the new global economy and global trade system, and by early October there will be two left in the running for the deciding round”, the Minister wrote in his post. Mr. Szijjártó said he had discussed the next steps by telephone with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. “Accordingly, in the second round of voting we will be supporting two of my former counterparts, former Kenyan Foreign Minister Amina Mohamed and former British Secretary of State for International Trade Liam Fox”, Mr. Szijjártó stated.
