State Secretary for Security Policy and International Cooperation István Mikola agreed with the Brussels-based Energy Charter’s Secretary General Urban Rusnák that the Embassy of Hungary in Hanoi would play a role in the ‘Energy Charter Liaison Embassies’ programme.
Vietnam is an important partner for Hungary in the South-East Asian region and we are paying particular attention to its efforts at improving its energy security, State Secretary for Security Policy and International Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade István Mikola said in Budapest.
István Mikola underscored that the South-East Asian Region is an important target area for the expansion of the Energy Charter Treaty's geographic scope and is in line with Hungary’s policy of “Opening to the East”, an important element of Hungary's comprehensive foreign policy strategy.
The countries participating in the ‘Energy Charter Liaison Embassies’ programme provide political support through their embassies to the expansion of the Energy Charter Treaty's geographic scope. The Treaty was signed in 1998 to foster international cooperation in improving energy security.
