“Everything always reminds Martin Schultz, leader of the German social democrats (SPD), about Hungary, whereas he would do better to be concerned about his own party in view of the fact that they have suffered defeats on a total of three regional elections”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó told Hungarian news agency MTI in reaction to statements on Hungary by the German politician.
The Chairman of the SPD and the party’s candidate for the post of Chancellor gave a speech at the party’s congress on Sunday in Dortmund and stressed that the democratic, enlightened and tolerant Europe for which former CEU Chairman and German Chancellor Helmut Kohl fought for, is facing “new problems” in light of the fact that certain government within the EU, such as the Hungarian Government led by Viktor Orbán and the Polach Government, are questioning this tolerance and Europe’s opened towards the world.
